Random Act of Kindness of the Month

April 2001

Houghton Valley School
Kathryn Pierce
New Entrant Teacher

Sophie and Eliza have been nominated for this award because of their kindness towards others and our environment. These girls have been assisting others by playing with children who feel lonely, doing small jobs for other children like putting their lunches away and helping with tidying up and cheering others up when they are feeling sad. They have gone the extra mile at our school by taking care of our environment by putting rubbish where it belongs. These girls often behave in this way and I am pleased that they have been 'caught out' doing something for others.

Union Grove Grade School
Monica Rohner
Teacher - 2nd grade

My nomination this month goes to Kelsey Hapner. She is a very thoughtful girl who will come to anybody's aid that she sees needs assistance. No matter what the problem is, she is there to lend a helping hand, a kind word, or just help the person find, pick up or explain something to help them on their way. She seems to think about everybody else first, before she thinks of herself. Her "acts of kindness" are from the heart!

School No. 6
Ellen Mandel-Steiner
Teacher - ESL K-5

Our honoree for April is a young kindergarten boy from Poland. When I first met him, he was so shy; he did not speak one word of English! Now, it is amazing to watch him transform into an excellent student and classroom helper. He loves to be the weatherman and always helps out with daily chores. He has come such a long way from the shy, scared boy of last year. PT is a model of excellent behavior and a frequent recipient of class rewards. Whenever I see him, I can't help but smile!

Monique Virgo came to class 3-208 in January and found that it wasn't easy meeting new friends or being the new kid on the block. So when Kaleisha came yesterday, Monique befriended her immediately. She even gave her a new folder she could use for homework. I thought that was so sweet of Monique and Kaleisha now has a new friend. Both girls were so happy throughout the day and I felt great that they were. What an unselfish thing to do. It is a pleasure knowing Monique and she truly deserves this award.

Holly has been nominated by our class. She is 7 years old. Holly has been kind to others. She shared her special papers with her friends; she is good at letting other people join in games. She brought some flowers for her teacher. Holly doesn't have any brothers or sisters yet, but she will soon.

Steele School
Scott Stolzenberg
Teacher - music
Nicholas is a fourth grader at Steele School. He is an outstanding student, a multitalented artist and a musician. Not only that, he spends an hour a week reading stories to the first grade classes and helping individual students with their classwork. Nicholas always follows through on his committments and lends a hand whenever you need one! Every student should be just like Nicholas!

Benton Elementary
Ashley Jones

Our honorees for April are Hannah, Wesley, and Cole. These children always are the first to volunteer first to clean up and the first to help others. They are all a joy to have in the classroom.

My honoree this month is a young lady who has proven to be a wonderful student and helper. Rachel Leeke is learning to become a more responsible student as the year progresses. Presently she is my homework monitor. Not only does Rachel give out the rexos for the next day, but she also takes the time to pick up any chairs or papers before we leave for the day. It's nice to see her take such pride in her classroom, making it a better place for all of us. Keep up the good work Rachel!
